Former Jaguar Sonya Bergin was back here at St.Joseph’s on September 23 to learn more about the teaching environment. As a part of the Concurrent Education program at Nipissing University, she is required to select a school to spend 30 hours inside a classroom observing classes, learning more about the basics of education, and professionalism.
Bergin spent the day in class with Mr.Jones. This was a great placement for her, as she enjoys classes where you can express creativity. “It was really great having Sonya in the classroom” said Mr.Jones. “She is really a part of the St.Joseph’s family.”
You may recognize Sonya, as she was a very involved student before graduating in 2015. She participated in coffee houses, sports, and even claimed first place in discus at OFSAA in her junior year.
When asked why she was excited to be back at the school, she said “high school in my opinion, was the best experience I could’ve had. I think it helped I was really involved in a bunch of different aspects of the school life here at St.Joe’s.”
Sonya was a student admired by many, and was a true Jaguar. “If I could have one wish, it would be to come back to high school” Bergin smiled. Unfortunately not as a student, but hopefully someday as a teacher.”
